This article is for Cable Matters model numbers 201048 to solve charging related issues with the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 including a failure to charge. These issues can be solved by performing a firmware update. Please follow the steps below to upgrade the firmware.
1. Download and install the FW Update Tool.
2. Connect the adapter through USB-C port of your computer (No PD power), and run the Upgrade Tool.
Click Scan Device, If FW Ver = 03D3, go to step 3,
If FW Ver = 0533, go to step 4
3. Download and flash firmware (03D3) using the Upgrade Tool
1) Download the firmware files
2) Move both files to the corresponding update folders and delete any other .bin files in those filders.
VL102.bin: Program Files (x86) -> VLIHubPDFWUpgradeTool -> updatefolder -> VL10x_Bin
03D3.bin: Program Files (x86) -> VLIHubPDFWUpgradeTool -> updatefolder -> Bin
3) Click Upgrade FW button, you will get a message (Upgrade is completed) when the process finished
4) Click Scan Device and check whether the FW version is right, the upgraded version is 87.30.10.06
4. Download and flash firmware (0533) using the Upgrade Tool
1) Download the firmware files
2) Move both files to the corresponding update folders and delete any other .bin files in those filders.
VL102.bin: Program Files (x86) -> VLIHubPDFWUpgradeTool -> updatefolder -> VL10x_Bin
03D3.bin: Program Files (x86) -> VLIHubPDFWUpgradeTool -> updatefolder -> Bin
3) Click Upgrade FW button, you will get a message (Upgrade is completed) when the process finished
4) Click Scan Device and check whether the FW version is right, the upgraded version is 87.30.10.06
