How To Use the Cable Matters Disk Performance Tool

When using external disk drives, it’s important to understand how different disk performance settings can impact your workflow. The two primary settings — Quick Removal and Better Performance — offer distinct advantages depending on your priorities, whether it's convenience or speed.

  • Quick Removal: This mode prioritizes ease of use and safety by allowing you to remove the drive at any time without additional steps. This setting is ideal if you frequently connect and disconnect your external drive. However, it may slightly reduce write speeds.

  • Better Performance: In this mode, the system enhances the drive's performance by caching write operations. While this provides faster speeds, it requires you to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature before disconnecting the drive. Failing to do so may result in data corruption or loss.

1. Connect the External Drive

  • Attach your external disk drive to your computer using the appropriate cable.
  • Ensure the drive is recognized by your system.

2. Select the Disk to Configure

  • Launch the Cable Matters Disk Performance Tool.
  • From the list of connected drives, select the disk you want to manage.

3. Choose Your Desired Setting

  • Quick Removal: Select this for maximum convenience, enabling you to remove the drive at any time without additional steps.

  • Better Performance: Choose this setting for enhanced speed, but remember to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option before disconnecting the drive.

4. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Important Notes

  • Always back up important data before changing performance settings.
  • If you select Better Performance, avoid unplugging the drive without properly ejecting it to prevent data loss.
